Crossrail Paddington station: Excavation reaches Crossrail tunnels

Today we are standing in the Paddington station box as we start our final phase of excavation down to the platform slab. What you can see behind me is one of our tunnel breaking points of which we have 4 within the Paddington station box. We have excavated down between the running tunnels to create a level platform and from there we use the breaking machines to actually break into the tunnels and remove the tunnel segments. Crossrail Art Programme – Whitechapel station artwork announced

Hi, my name is Chantal Joffe and I’m a painter. Crossrail is putting art into some of the stations on the Elizabeth line and I’m working on the one for Whitechapel, which is a priviledge. My idea of a really nice way to spend a Sunday is to walk up to Whitechapel, Brick Lane. Working on the piece began by thinking about the neighbourhood and the people who live there. I mean Paddington station is you know an iconic station, it’s a beautiful station,…

With the western ticket hall the idea is a series of tumbling jewels if you like, that would kind of cascade down the diagonal panels by the escalators and then traverse right around the concourse and then come back up again. So it’s kind of like a journey of some gems or jewels I guess. As a passenger you would come down the escalator…
