Summer At The University of Michigan – Campus Museums

Hey guys, welcome back! I’m Lauren and
today we’re going to be exploring museums here on the University of
Michigan campus. [upbeat music plays] Hey what’s up? We’re here at the UMMA. Hi! I’m Chris. I’ve lived in Ann
Arbor my whole life and let’s go check out the museum. So what is the UMMA? The UMMA is a meeting place for the arts at the center of great university. This is “Love Is What You Want”
it’s like one of the most Instagramable pieces of art here in the UMMA.
UMMA’s also home to a collection of original Picasso’s. There’s always new
exhibitions here in the UMMA. You never know what you’re gonna find. We’re currently at the Museum of Natural History Hi! I’m Hannah, a student docent and I’m going to be showing you around today. One of the special things about the Museum of Natural History is our visible lab. So you can actually have conversations with our scientists, who are working on real fossils. Come check out our interactive pieces in our Measuring Time and Space gallery. [announcer: “There are things to small and too large for us to see.”] Meet Majungasaurus, the museum’s newest
dinosaur. Now we’re at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. I’m gonna go meet with
Cathy, who’s gonna show me around today We focus on the archaeology of
mediterranean world. One of the things that makes us really unique is that more
than half of our collections actually come from excavations
sponsored by the University of Michigan in the 1920s and 30s, so we know exactly
what sites and where, uhh what buildings where in the ground our artifacts came
from. Here we have the Room of the Mysteries from the Villa of the Mysteries This is a watercolor reproduction of the original in Pompeii. They all look like
flip-flops you wear today, and they’re all broken in exactly the same spot. So
it’s been 2,000 years and we have not perfected the design. Yeah, that’s absolutely happened to me! Haha Today I explored some museums on campus and had an amazing time. I learned so much so if you guys haven’t been I highly recommend that you go. It’s completely free so for that I’m going to give it 5 Block M’s out of 5 Block M’s I’ll see you guys next week!
