Homemade Mashed Potatoes from Scratch

Homemade Mashed Potatoes from Scratch

i everyone. This is Stephanie Manley with
Copykat.com. Today I’m going to show you how to make homemade mashed potatoes. You don’t need to buy them in the box. You
can make them at home. And, you know, they only have just a few ingredients.
And we’re going to use potatoes here. I’m using Russet. These are
also fantastic with Yukon Gold potatoes, but this is just your average, everyday
potato so I wanted to show you how to make them with those. We are also going to use a little bit of butter,
little bit of heavy cream. If you don’t have heavy cream my next preference
is half and half. And if you don’t have half and half you can use a
little bit of milk. Then we’re going to use salt and pepper. And,
you know, that’s all that’s in here. So why don’t we go ahead and get
started with making homemade mashed potatoes. So you want to add just enough water to the
potatoes so that you cover them up completely. And now it’s important to add
a little bit of salt to the potatoes, so they have a little bit of flavor.
You just want to add about a half teaspoon of salt. And we’re going to
cook these for about 15 to 20 minutes and they’re going to be done when
they’re fork-tender. And what that means, when I pierce them with a fork,
the fork will glide right through the potatoes. So while the potatoes are cooking, we’re going
to go ahead and heat together a little bit of cream and butter.
We like to heat them up in advance so we can blend them together and
they’re all nice and creamy. So I’m going to put this in the microwave for
just about a minute. So I’ve simply taken the potatoes after they
were fork-tender, drained them, put them in a bowl. The next thing I’m
going to use is a hand mixer. And I’m going to go ahead and start to whip
these potatoes until they’re nice and fluffy. Alright. So I’m going to
go ahead and add in my warm cream and butter. So we’ve just made homemade mashed potatoes
and it was so easy to do. Please be sure to give this video a big thumbs
up here on YouTube. Rate, comment and subscribe so you can see what’s
cooking next.

  3. You really need to adjust the music, both the intro and the transition music. I have to turn the volume up to hear you and then down because the music is really loud.

For a better viewer experience, I suggest making all of the tunes in your video very light music, like a elevator, so that your voice is the dominant sound.

  5. Hey Stephanie, do you have any ideas for what to do with the potato skins you peel off when making mashed potatoes? I've tried a few things with pan frying them before, with mixed results.
