Getting Started With Pastel Art : How to Blend Pastels on Black Paper

Hi, I’m Melody on behalf of Expert Village.
We’re going to do some blending with pastels, we’re using block pastels and we’re using
black paper. This is actually poster board, you can use paper, poster board, some of the
highlight gel pens come with black paper, you can use that, but it’s a lot of fun.
The reaction that the colors have with the black is just incredible, compared to white
paper behind it and it’s very, very, very fun, for me anyway. Now, see the way it’s
blending, you can leave rough spots, you can have a lot of fun with this, you can do a
lot of outdoor snow scenes with these colors, or the ocean or the sky, and you can put big
blobs of clouds, billowing clouds and blend it all together and put some, do some of the
little lines in there that clouds would have and then throw some gray in there to bring
in the reality, of the storminess, its just so much fun to use black. Well this has been
our segment on blending pastels on black background. Join us for our next segment. We’re going
to show you a little bit about composition.

  1. Hmmm, I haven't tried the black paper in a while. Maybe I should.

Let me know what you think of the Time Lapse oil pastel on my channel.
