ESMoA Scratch (Getty Black Book) Exhibit Preview

We’re at the El Segundo Museum of Art ESMoA
We’re starting the installation of a project called Scratch The Scratch exhibition is a continuation of a project that was started with the Getty Institute
which involved creating a graffiti black book focusing on Los Angeles graffiti writers. The six murals for the Scratch project were curated by six artists that were involved
with making of the book. Fishe, Defer, Cre8, Miner, Axis, and myself Eye One. We’re working side by side with other amazing artists. Now we have Fishe and the LTS crew who like really have an active presence on the streets of LA. We have Defer, Cryptik, and Patrick Martinez working on a mural. Big Sleeps, world reknown for his lettering. Axis is currently painting.
He’s another art hero of mine. Well, the wall that I’m curating for the Scratch exhibit
is a dedication to the graffiti writer Tempt One. Tempt One is a really influential graffiti
artist. His style, his work has had global influence on the graffiti movement in general. He is unfortunately afflicted by Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS, and he can no longer practice his art form. So the central piece of the mural is his tag and it’s the last tag that he did in my book. Which to me links it to the whole concept of the graffiti book of friends. Where my personal black book has his signature. So I felt it was important to put that on the walls of the Scratch exhibit. Getting to paint murals is also a part of what we do as artists, as graffiti writers, you know as muralists. And having them showcased in a museum setting is pretty significant. A different audience will get to see them, than who normally sees them on the streets. And it should be interesting for both the artists and people who get to view the work.
