Creative & Practical Writing Tips : How to Write a Career Plan

Hi, I’m Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com
and I’m going to talk about how to write a career plan. This is something that takes
a lot of thought. When you’re setting out to write a career plan you need to start with
a lot of reflection. Think about what your goals are. Where do you see yourself in five
years and ten years, twenty years? That’s where you, that’s the plan that you need to
write. You need to think about where you want to be and how your going to get there, what
are the steps you’re going to take? You may need to do also besides your reflection, you
may need to do a little bit of research. Find out a little bit more about some of the things
that you are dreaming of and planning for. A lot of times what you’ll find out with research
is what you expected about a certain career or path might not be exactly what you thought.
So, talking to people, gathering information from people in the field will also help you
refine your plan. A third step in writing a career plan is to consult with a career
coach or strategist or counselor. This is optional of course but it can be really helpful
to talk out loud, go through some of your ideas, and get a little bit of feedback from
someone who is a professional and has some guidance to give. When you feel like you’re
at a place where you have these goals solidified and you’re a little bit more clear about them,
then sit down and write the plan. Set down the milestones that you have thought about,
where you want to be in five years and ten years, and what are the steps you’re going
to take to get to each of those places. It’s really important to start with that goal and
that dream but also have some practical steps about how you’re going to get there. So those
are some ideas about how to write a career plan.
