Caravaggio & Bernini im Kunsthistorischen Museum Wien

Caravaggio & Bernini im Kunsthistorischen Museum Wien

For the first time,
the Kunsthistorisches Museum is showing a major exhibition
about Caravaggio and Bernini, the two most important artists
in the early Baroque period in Rome. Caravaggio caused a sensation
with his revolutionary, dramatic paintings, as well as his unconventional lifestyle. Bernini rapidly became
a celebrated sculptor and sought-after architect
in the service of the popes. What both artists share is a new interest in the depiction
of feelings and intense emotions. This is why we are combining works that show their interest in major themes
like love, terror, suffering, but also artworks illustrating
vitality or jokes. The many international loans
include works never shown in public before, such as some of Bernini’s sculptures and a painting by arguably the most famous
woman artist of the 17th century: Artemisia Genitileschi. The exhibition is on show
from 15 October to 19 January. We look forward to your visit!
